The school is responsible for producing some of Canada’s forefront business leaders, and is a pillar of innovation and progression for multiple industries.
LOFT Technology serves as a centrepiece for remote and hybrid learning.
Remote and hybrid learning has become a necessity for higher-level education institutions around the world. UBC recognized the need for a space that allowed professors and students alike to benefit from distance teaching and learning.
Inside the Sauder School of Business, they’ve built a media lab that functions as a hub of connectivity for remote learning. The purpose of this lab is to provide a technology-enabled space for educators to produce dynamic lessons for remote students.
In this media lab, the LOFT D2 Interactive Display is the centrepiece, acting as a canvas for the presenter. A professional camera is aimed towards the display and streams a live feed of the professor or student interacting with the content on the display.
The D2 display is equipped with a LOFT I7 PC Module. This adds the full functionality of a Windows PC, all without any additional cabling or components!
“The students really enjoy watching the instructor work with the material instead of a flat powerpoint panel”
Interactive Displays allow students to engage further with the lesson content.
One of the primary uses for the LOFT Interactive Display in the school is remote teaching. Students are able to choose to view the instructor with the display or isolate the display to view the content in a detailed manner.
The ability to see the instructor interacting with the lesson materials is of great benefit to the learning environment, as it provides an easier way for students to follow along. It also creates higher levels of engagement in the class, as students are no longer just staring at static information. The educator is able to convey lesson ideas and information to a remote audience in a clear, engaging way.
“adding the loft display has been a serious value add to the way we teach and interact with students and faculty”
Annotate anything on screen.
One unique use of the D2 Interactive Display is the markup feature. For example, athletic departments are able to watch videos of previous plays/demonstrations. They are then able to annotate on top of the video that is being shown.
This helps coaches and athletes understand plays, technique and strategy at a much deeper level. Think of it as having the world’s most advanced playbook right at your fingertips!
